EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ

is a fully owned subsidiary of the multi-utility group EVN AG.

Technology and competence at the service of the environment

EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ was established as a cooperation between the Federal Province of Lower Austria and EVN AG in 1994. It was commissioned with the construction of a central thermal waste utilisation plant in Lower Austria for the main purpose of avoiding landfill waste and preventing the costly remediation of contaminated sites.

EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ built one of Europe’s most advanced thermal waste utilisation plants in Zwentendorf, Lower Austria, which was then expanded to a total capacity of 500,000 tons a year in 2010.
After merging with WTE Wassertechnik in October 2014, the segment of wastewater treatment could be added to the extensive portfolio of disposal technology. EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ is responsible for the management of sewage systems and wastewater treatment plants both in terms of technological and commercial concerns in the Austrian federal provinces of Lower Austria, Salzburg, and Carinthia.

The main object of the company is the development, construction, and operation of both processes and facilities for the treatment and disposal of waste and wastewater as well as for waste to energy generation. In pursuing its objectives, EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ always resorts to the state of the art in waste engineering.

The company offers its expertise not only in Austria but also internationally: EVN Abfallverwertung NÖ serves as an EVN Know-How Centre on waste and wastewater management that provides the best solutions especially tailored to the local requirements of individual sites and customers both in Austria and abroad.

Among the results of such endeavours was the thermal waste utilisation plant MSZ 3 in Moscow. As the company’s first international project, EVN assumed responsibility of the development, construction, funding, and operation of the plant until the year 2019.
